21 Traits Of An Awakening Soul

Christina Sarich, Contributor
Waking Times
You can say its because of a global shift in consciousness, a destiny we have arrived at due to spiritual evolution, or the outcome of strange times, but, many people all across the globe are going through intense personal changes and sensing an expansion of consciousness. Personal changes of this magnitude can be difficult to recognize and to understand, but here are 21 traits of an awakening soul, a ‘sensitive’, or an ‘empath.’
1.  Being in public places is sometimes overwhelming. Since our walls between self and other are dissolving, we haven’t really learned to distinguish between someone else’s energy and our own. If the general mood of the crowd is herd-like or negative, we can feel this acutely, and may feel like retreating into our own private space. When we have recharged our batteries with meditation, spending time in nature, far away from other people, or just sitting in quiet contemplation, we are ready to be with the masses again. In personal relationships, we often will feel someone else’s emotions as our own. It is important to have this higher sense of empathy, but we must learn to allow another person’s emotions while observing them and keeping our empathy, but, realizing that not all emotions belong to usSocial influence can dampen our own innate wisdom.
2.  We know things without having to intellectually figure them out. Often called intuitive awareness, we have ‘a-ha’ moments and insights that can explain some of the most complex theories or phenomenon in the world. Some of the most brilliant minds of our time just ‘know.’ Adepts and sages often were given downloads of information from higher states of consciousness after meditating or being in the presence of a more conscious individual; this is happening for more people with more frequency. As we trust our intuition more often, it grows stronger.  This is a time of ‘thinking’ with our hearts more than our heads. Our guts will no longer be ignored. Our dreams are becoming precognitive and eventually our conscious thoughts will be as well.
3.  Watching television or most of main stream media, including newspapers and many Hollywood movies is very distasteful to us. The mindset that creates much, but not all, of the programming on television and in cinema is abhorrent. It commodifies people and promotes violence. It reduces our intelligence and numbs our natural empathetic response to someone in pain.
4.  Lying to us is nearly impossible. We may not know exactly what truth you are withholding, but we can also tell (with our developing intuition and ESP skills) that something isn’t right. We also know when you have other emotions, pain, love, etc. that you aren’t expressing. You’re an open book to us. We aren’t trained in counter-intelligence, we are just observant and knowing. While we may pick up on physical cues, we can look into your eyes and know what you are feeling.
5.  We may pick up symptoms of your cold, just like men who get morning sickness when their wives are pregnant. Sympathy pains, whether emotional or physical, are something we experience often. We tend to absorb emotion through the solar plexus, considered the place we ‘stomach emotion’ so as we learn to strengthen this chakra center, we may sometimes develop digestive issues. Grounding to the earth can help to re-establish our emotional center. Walking barefoot is a great way to re-ground.
6.  We tend to root for the underdog, those without voices, those who have been beaten down by the matrix, etc. We are very compassionate people, and these marginalized individuals often need more love. People can sense our loving hearts, so complete strangers will often tell us their life stories or approach us with their problems. While we don’t want to be a dumping ground for everyone’s issues, we are also a good ear for those working through their stuff.
7.  If we don’t learn how to set proper boundaries, we can get tired easily from taking on other people’s emotions. Energy Vampires are drawn to us like flies to paper, so we need to be extra vigilant in protecting ourselves at times.
8.  Unfortunately, sensitives or empaths often turn to drug abuse or alcohol to block some of their emotions and to ‘protect’ themselves from feeling the pain of others.
9.  We are all becoming healers. We naturally gravitate toward healing fields, acupuncture, reiki, Qi-Gong, yoga, massage, midwivery, etc. are fields we often find ourselves in. We know that the collective needs to be healed, and so we try our best to offer healing in whatever form we are most drawn to. We also turn away from the ‘traditional’ forms of healing ourselves. Preferring natural foods, herbs, and holistic medicine as ways to cure every ailment.
10.  We see the possibilities before others do. Just like when the church told Copernicus he was wrong, and he stood by his heliocentric theory, we know what the masses refuse to believe. Our minds are light-years ahead.
11.  We are creative. We sing, dance, paint, invent, or write. We have amazing imaginations.
12.  We require more solitude than the average person.
13.  We might get bored easily, but we are really good at entertaining ourselves.
14.  We have a difficult time doing things we don’t want to do or don’t really enjoy. We really do believe life was meant to be an expression of joy. Why waste it doing something you hate? We aren’t lazy, we are discerning.
15.  We are obsessed with bringing the truth to light. Like little children who say, “that’s not fair” we want to right the wrongs of the world, and we believe it often just takes education. We endeavor to explain the unexplainable and find answers to the deep questions of life. We are seekers, in the Campbellian paradigm. ‘The Hero With a Thousand Faces.”
16.  We can’t keep track of time. Our imaginations often get away with us and a day can feel like a minute, a week, a day.
17.  We abhor routine.
18.  We often disagree with authority (for obvious reasons).
19.  We will often be kind, but if you are egotistical or rude, we won’t spend much time with you or find an excuse to not hang out with people who are obsessed with themselves. We don’t ‘get’ people who are insensitive to other people’s feelings or points of view.
20.  We may be vegan or vegetarian because we can sense a certain energy of the food we eat, like if an animal was slaughtered inhumanely. We don’t want to consume negative energy.
21.  We wear our own emotions on our sleeves and have a hard time ‘pretending’ to be happy if we aren’t. We avoid confrontation, But will quietly go about changing the world in ways you can’t even see.
These 21 traits of an awakening soul are a reminder of how important it is to maintain awareness, clarity and strength in these interesting times. If you are experiencing something that is not on this list, please add it to the comments section below.

  1. people draw to us and feel the need to open up all of their emotions on us. We dont do well with others emotions because of how unstable they are. We dont do well with monetary gain because monetary gain is counter productive.

  2. that last especially - what's the point of money if we're basically just wasting time to pay for....garbage. all of it, even "bills" - garbage!

  3. Thanks for the post! They're all very exciting and true.
22 we watch things happen exactly as we felt or predicted (technically speaking its not a prediction but a high speed calculation of probabilities and intuitively finding out the most probable) and don't get surprised or amazed anymore but instead we watch and keep learning.

  4. I do not take pleasure in acquiring "things." I would rather give than to get. I just don't care what car I drive or name brand stuff. I buy food and pay my bills, but I have no desire to accumulate material goods. I suffer when I see others suffering.

  5. Seeing number sequences. Everywhere... 111, 222, 333, 1234... etc... I believe the Universe uses numbers to communicate with us. Well, It uses everything, but numbers are a distinct language.

  6. This was so helpful. In or home we talk openly about the shift. we don't always act in harmony with out highest self, but we are ever vigilant to realign or energy back to compassion and love. Our biggest challenge right now is not to be over come with grief at the unconsciousness of the world. We live in a largely unconscious community. To be surrounded by others who are in such pain sometimes feels like an attack from all sides on our spiritual well being. Thank you for the reassurance that we are ALL on the right path. NAMASTE

  7. Feeling compelled to get rid of "stuff", be it material things or superficial friendships. Tend to spend a lot of time in meditation, contemplation & reading a lot of metaphysical literature. Question the nature of everything and its purpose in my life

  8. Funny you should mention getting rid of "stuff". In the last little while. I have been feeling my senses heighten substantially and have been also looking to get rid of a lot of "stuff" material and emotional (friends, etc.) that don't serve a purpose in my life. I guess it's not such a coincidence.

  9. And just look.. most of us are "anonymous" and for many reasons. We know we are ridiculed and watched by those who need our help most. We feel connected and one with everything. We don't need names to tie us down. We are a collective. Yet when those who would wish to harm us have lost their power, we will all come out and express with great joy "This is who I am!" In a sense, that process will come ever faster if we start doing that now! Blessings be. :)

  15. so true, especially for the discomfort around the masses part. I often find myself feeling anger towards other for no reason, well, it's because I feel that the masses are ignorant, and it's painful to deal with.

  16. We come to the realization that all things, either physical or imagined are placed before us by God as signs and pointers for us to walk in the correct direction.

  17. Well I agree with most of it! But not number 17. I like to have a routine. Although most of the time I am not able to spend the day in a routine. Also at times I feel a lot of anger towards other people who are insensitive and are not able to understand. I like solitude and like to spend most of my time in the nature. But yes, at times I do feel a very strong urge to be recognized and loved. That happens seldom but happens.

  19. We don't feel comfortable being categorized into a certain group of "awakened" people because we hate the idea of being somewhat "more advanced" than others, even if we can't prevent ourselves from feeling that we might have gotten something that some other people still didn't.

We also understand that educating people (and ourselves!) to these things is a long lasting work that might easily take a lifetime.

Finally, we don't feel comfortable with the notion of "property". We don't feel we "own" anything, and we don't really want to "own" anything. Isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  20. We are waking up. And that makes me so happy. It's comforting to have confirmation that I am not the only one who fits every part

    ReplyDelete
  21. ^^Especially that about property and not really understanding how you can own something, i never get upset if i lose something and dont really get people hwo can get heavily effected by it. As long as i got what i need to survive and be happy i have no concrete wishes, but instead enjoy what life throws at me.

  23. who else noticed those things with numbers? because whenever me and my friends look at the clocks its always like 01:01, 11;22, 12:34, 05:50 etc.. and we can somehow see the sequence between the moments we look at the clockt. usually they work like signs for us when we talk about somethings or trying to decide what decision to make.

  28. **Goosebumps** Each and every step resonated with my soul...thanks for this :)

I would love to share something that I have been through, that might in turn help others speed this awakening process up.
I should have awakened years and years ago...I was very well on the right path. But being manic depressant the doctors put me on depression meds. I was on them for over 10 years. I had an extreme epiphany moment a couple years ago while nearing a self-inflicted release which told me I was here to help guide others out of this depression and sadness. In order to do this I understood I had to get all of the medications/chemicals out of my body. I had my doctors help ween me off my ADHD meds and birth control. But after over a year my doc still wouldn't take me off my depression meds. I do not recommend this to people, as it was very intense & overpowering, but I left my doctors care and as of April I have taken myself completely off of my depression medication...and you know what? My awakening has sky rocketed into another vibration!!! Everything is moving so much quicker now. My mind is clear, my heart is open and my body has literally shifted to a higher vibration.
The point of the story. Cleanse your entire body of ALL medications, prescriptions, over the counter medicines, flouride, aspertame...anything you cannot read and/or undertand probably shouldn't be put into your body! Meditation. Meditation. Meditation. Love and Gratitude. Beauty. Life. Love. <3 <3

    1. Thank you for your story. I never knew why I could quit my depression/anxiouty meds and recover from post traumatic stress syndrome until now. But it is like you said. Getting the meds out of my system allowed me to experience a finer vibration.

  29. I think smart phones might be the downfall of real human interaction. I cannot seem to have a conversation in person without the other person holding/looking at their cell phone. I am not sure if this is an awakening on my part or just a pet peeve but I am pretty sure I am the minority....(I refuse to own one just for this reason) Stay connected in real life!

    1. When having others at my house, I have a place for them to remove their shoes and a basket by the entryway for cell phones to be placed. I started doing this for my children's teenage friends... but have followed suit with adults as well. I've had several friends adopt this measure also so that people can 'RECONNECT' with each other and 'DISCONNECT' from their device.

  31. This is a self limiting categorizing statement. It just sounds nice and much of it will ring true for many at this time. It is easy to refer to we and give an itemized definition of "we" as being higher. What this lacks is the recognition that we are the possibility of all that exists. Not just the good stuff, even the most enlightened are human, good, bad, ugly and beautiful humans. We are all of it and even the non-desirable traits are within ourselves. The world is the reflection of us and how human we really are.

  32. I'm still undecided as to how much this 'awakening' movement is marketing (perhaps even some sort of psy-op), although marketing has never piqued a sense of inner knowledge like some of the material out there. I enjoyed reading this, so thanks. I was hoping this article would be less of a hippy circle jerk (hell, I'm down with most of that stuff when not in a curmudgeonly or cynical mood but I'm yet to find a way to find an article that explains this headspace to non 'heads'and dozers). Readers may detect a hint of negativity in this post but one thing I have found to serve me well in my searching is the retention of cynicism and NOT merely focusing on the positive (which may explain why I have found this path exhausting at times).

    Fruitful wanderings to all :-)

    1. You will find answers in stillness. Not in logic or rationalization. It's not about positive thinking all of the time... that's just a natural by-product once you realize how insignificant outside influences really are.

When you can reach a place of silence and allow your mind to become empty, not thinking, not going over "to-do lists", not analyzing your environment or physical body or external sensations... this is the only way you'll be able to get an inkling about this "headspace" you're obviously curious about.

Try it. Lots of meditation tuns on YouTube that can help quiet the internal mind noise.

  33. Thank you so much for this post. I don't know if you want to add this to the list or not but I've been feeling a little isolated because I can't find others like myself in my community and so there are times when it becomes a little depressing. I try so hard to stay in a positive frame of mind that sometimes I forget to give myself a few minutes to feel disappointed. Feeling disappointed isn't a flaw in my attempts to be positive and I think I push myself too hard when I expect myself to stay positive all the time. Sometimes I just need to cry and vent the sadness and frustration inside. It definitely isn't easy being a lightworker, especially when you don't have a support system of like thinkers (except for my on-line friends whom I love and am thankful for.)

  36. I have like prophetic dreams and its the only time I actually remember my dreams. It's usually just a glimpse, a few mere seconds. Sometimes I know it means something is going to change in my life and what that change is from what I feel or see and sometimes I just end up with weird deja vu.

Thank you for reminding us ... becase be reading again what we know... awaken ppl ... conscousness is expanding :)... and we becam more awaken.is how consciousness work:). Understand it... and after we understand this... we stop thinking and we find our small "G spot" into our hart ... from where we became what we really are:).

  38. Not interested in the aspirations and lifestyles prescribed for us by mainstream ideology. Willing to risk walking an alternative path in life, one that allows our innate goodness to unfold in the world in its own unique way - without being persuaded by fearful arguments such as 'but what about your future?' We know that there's so much more to life than the dreams that are sold to us by our would-be slave masters.

  39. Some accuse of us not taking a stand, or sticking with one side of a viewpoint... because we can often see ONE situation from MULTIPLE perspectives.

We know that one of these statements are absolutely true:

    1. We are SPIRITUAL BEINGS having a HUMAN experience.
    2. We are HUMAN BEINGS having a SPIRITUAL experience.
    3. We are both at the same time.

  42. Has anyone considered this possible phenomenon to be causally linked to the seemingly obvious attempts by the system to push people with above average creative capacity into anti-materialistic, overly psychologically sensitive belief systems through deliberate meme generation? It's one thing to understand that we are one unified consciousness in a family of homo sapiens and that we're part of nature and should respect it, but excluding absolutely every last drop of material ambition and dismissing it as totally selfish won't solve many of the worlds problems.

  44. we don't waste time arguing interpersonal issues out the way families or groups are so used to doing. having been there in the past, we see how myopic and ego driven people usually are when trying to be right in a disagreement, rather than trying to talk through to a solution, like an intelligent being, they'd rather just prove something to their ego by "winning the fight". because of this we usually will just hold our tongue to avoid the wasted energy of talking in circles. when someone's ego is involved, you cannot win the argument, whether you're right or not. so we avoid the confrontation and instead feel sorry for the person's stage of consciousness.
